South African motorists might have more reasons to smile as early petrol price predictions for July 2025 show positive signs. Recent data suggests that fuel prices could see another welcome drop, continuing the trend from June.
Just last week, drivers across South Africa enjoyed significant reductions in both petrol and diesel prices. The latest numbers, sourced from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) and shared with The South African website, paint a promising picture if current market trends hold steady.
Fuel Prices Expected to Drop Further
According to the CEF’s early projections as of Tuesday, 10 June, petrol prices could decline further in July. Petrol 93 is forecasted to decrease by 19 cents per litre, while Petrol 95 may drop by 16 cents per litre. Diesel users may also benefit, with 0.05% sulphur diesel expected to decrease by 25 cents and 0.005% sulphur diesel by 24 cents. Additionally, illuminating paraffin prices could fall by 35 cents per litre.
These anticipated price cuts largely depend on two key factors: the international price of oil and the rand/dollar exchange rate. Both elements have been relatively favourable in recent weeks, providing temporary relief to consumers.
What’s Driving the Fuel Price Changes?
At the time of this report, Brent crude oil is trading at $66.95 per barrel, while the rand sits at R17.71 against the US dollar. These figures contribute significantly to the potential price reductions. A stable or strengthening rand, combined with steady oil prices, could ensure that the forecasted decreases materialize.
However, experts caution that the global oil market and currency exchange rates remain volatile. Any sudden shifts could influence the final fuel price adjustments scheduled to take effect at midnight on Tuesday, 1 July 2025.

Until then, motorists are advised to drive economically and watch for official updates as the first of July approaches. The coming weeks will reveal whether this positive forecast will become a reality or if unexpected market shifts will alter the picture.
